What is an Outlet Store?
An outlet store is sometimes called a factory outlet and can often be found in a outlet mall or outlet center.
Outlet stores are where manufacturers sell stock directly to the public. Because the stock is not sold by a middle party and is shipped direct from the factory it is usually heavily discounted. Additionally outlet stores may have surplus stock or older discontinued lines from regular stores.
Sometimes completely new stock is made exclusively for outlet stores and can be found nowhere else.
Originally factory outlet stores were attached to the actual factory where the merchandise was made, these days many stores club together in an outlet center, large groups of outlet centers exist in the USA such as Tanger outlets, Premium outlets and Prime Outlets.
